Online and and print information resources for chemistry and biochemistry researchers and students.
Handouts for the Fall 2013 Graduate Orientation (but also helpful for faculty, staff and undergrads). All of the PDFs contain clickable URLs to the resources and library services mentioned.
This guide will help you start your research in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Use the tabs to navigate this guide, and be sure to scroll down to see the content on each page. There are also guides for specific courses, like CHEM 105 (Physical Chemistry Laboratory) and CHEM 143 (Organic Chemistry Laboratory), as well as a separate guide for SciFinder.
Please email me if you have additional research questions, would like to set up an appointment, or have other sources to include in the guide.

Off-campus access (as well as on-campus wifi access) to most of these licensed electronic resources--databases, e-journals and e-books--is restricted to UC San Diego students, faculty and staff. Make sure to set up your computer to access the e-resources you need.
- Proxy Server
Make a simple change to your web browser settings to enable off-campus access for the electronic resources. For tablets and smartphones, you'll need to use VPN instead.
- VPN (Cisco AnyConnect Client)
Download VPN software on your computer to get off-campus access. A good alternative if you're having problems with proxy. When connecting, select the 'althruucsd' setting. --Using the EasyConnect option (WebVPN) is not advised, and with some databases like SciFinder and Reaxys, it will not work.
- UCSD Encrypted Wireless
Use the UCSD-PROTECTED wifi network to access UCSD-licensed resources on your laptop, tablet, or smartphone anywhere on campus.
