About This Guide - Contact Information

These are the key information resources we offer to support students and researchers in the Department of NanoEngineering, along with others doing work in nanotechnology. There's a separate guide for Chemical Engineering, as well as guides for more specialized topics like the prices of chemicals and materials, crystallography, and properties of materials and chemicals

Please contact me at tmvogel@ucsd.edu if you have questions about accessing or using these resources or want to schedule a research consultation(Short URL: https://ucsd.libguides.com/nano)

VPN for Off-Campus Access

The Library licenses thousands of electronic resources, including databases, ebooks, and journals. Many of these resources are only available to UC San Diego students, faculty, and staff due to license agreements.

If you are located off-campus, you must use the AnyConnect VPN client to access these. Instructions for downloading are below.

  • When connecting via VPN, select 2-step secured althruucsd option from the group menu. VPN also requires DUO 2-step authentication each time

Setting up VPN helps identify you as a member of the UC San Diego community, so you can use these resources rather than being prompted to login or pay for content. If you need help connecting from off-campus, follow our instructions and troubleshooting tips!

Wifi for On-Campus Access

On campus, use the UCSD-Protected Wifi (or RESNET-Protected) network to access our licensed electronic resources from a laptop or mobile device.

  • The UCSD guest wifi will get you online, but not to the databases, ebooks, and journals that we license.
  • If the Protected Wifi networks are slow, you can use the UCSD guest wifi AND VPN as if you were off campus.
